TORRENT Troubleshooting
Troubles Opening TORRENT Files
Shareaza is Not Installed
When trying to open your TORRENT file, you get the error "Can't Open TORRENT File Type". Customarily, this means that Shareaza is not installed on %%os%%. Your operating system cannot associate your TORRENT with Shareaza, so double-clicking the file won't work.
Tip: When you have another program installed that you know will open your TORRENT, you can select it from the other programs listed (see "Show Apps").
Obsolete Version of Shareaza
Occasionally, you might have an outdated version of Shareaza installed that's incompatible with your BitTorrent Information File type. If you do not have the proper version Shareaza (or any of the other programs listed above), you may need to try downloading a different version of it, or one of the other software applications listed above. Your BitTorrent Information File file was probably created by a newer release of Shareaza than what's currently installed your computer.
Tip: Right-clicking on your TORRENT, then clicking "Properties" (Windows) or "Get Info" (Mac), can provide clues about your file version.
Summary: Not having the right Shareaza version on your computer can cause problems opening TORRENT files.
Associated Difficulties Loading TORRENT Files
You can still experience errors opening TORRENT files even with the latest version of Shareaza installed on your PC. There can be external issues inside of %%os%% that are causing these errors when opening TORRENTs. These issues include:
- File references in the Windows Registry for TORRENT are wrong
- Unintentional removal of the description of the TORRENT file inside the Windows Registry
- Invalid installation of a TORRENT-associated program (eg. Shareaza)
- The TORRENT itself is corrupted
- Malware-tainted TORRENT file can't be opened
- Hardware related to TORRENTs has device driver corruption
- Windows has inadequate resources to open your BitTorrent Information File file
