Understanding UE2 Issues
Frequent UE2 Opening Issues
UltraCompressor II is Not Installed
When trying to open your UE2 file, you get the error "Can't Open UE2 File Type". Customarily, this means that UltraCompressor II is not installed on %%os%%. You won't be able to double-click to open your UE2 because your OS doesn't know what to do with it.
Tip: Another UE2-related program can be selected to open the file by clicking "Show Apps" and finding the application.
Obsolete Version of UltraCompressor II
Your Encrypted Archive file is incompatible with UltraCompressor II because you might have the wrong version installed. Visit the Nico De Vries website to download (or purchase) the latest version of UltraCompressor II. The primary cause of this problem is that your Encrypted Archive file was created by a different (newer) version of UltraCompressor II than what's installed.
Tip: If you right-click on your UE2 file, then select "Properties" (Windows) or "Get Info" (Mac), you can obtain hints about what version you need.
Regardless, most of the UE2 file opening problems relate to not having the right version of UltraCompressor II installed.
Other UE2 File Issues
Assuming you have the right UltraCompressor II version installed, other problems can prevent you from opening UE2 files. Other UE2 opening errors can be created by other system problems inside of %%os%%. These other problems include (listed in order from most to least common):
- UE2 file type Registry entries are wrong
- Unintentional removal of the description of the UE2 file inside the Windows Registry
- UltraCompressor II or another UE2 application experienced a flawed installation
- File corruption affecting your UE2 file
- The UE2 is infected with a virus
- Hardware associated with UE2 has outdated drivers
- Too many applications are open on your PC to load your Encrypted Archive file successfully
