Sources of UCN Problems
Common Problems Opening UCN Files
UltraCompressor II Removed
You encounter an error message such as "%%os%% Can't Open UCN Files" when trying to open your UCN. Usually, this is because you do not have UltraCompressor II for %%os%% installed. Your operating system cannot associate your UCN with UltraCompressor II, so double-clicking the file won't work.
Tip: If you have another software that you know opens UCN files, you can select it by hitting the "Show Apps" button.
Wrong Version of UltraCompressor II is Installed
Occasionally, you might have an outdated version of UltraCompressor II installed that's incompatible with your UltraCompressor II Compressed Archive type. If you've got the wrong version of UltraCompressor II installed, you'll need to install the correct version. This problem is most common when you have an older version of the software application, and your file was created by a newer version that it cannot recognize.
Tip: You can sometimes get hints about the right program version by right-clicking on the UCN file, selecting "Properties", and looking at the version information.
Conclusion: The majority of UCN file opening issues are due to not having the correct UltraCompressor II version installed.
